Mike Penner became Christine
The former "Mike Penner", a long-time transsexual, struggled with his gender identity for more than 40 years before making the move.
He writes for the Los Angeles Times sports pages.
Calling himself a "transsexual sportswriter", he declared in a LATimes.com article that he will "come back in yet another incarnation... as Christine."
He reassured his barber that he still loves soccer despite the change.
