Cristiano Ronaldo plays for his football club Manchester United (MUFC) in the English Premiere League. He also represented Portugal in the FIFA World Cup 2006 and was definitely part of the force which successfully brought the country into the semi-finals. Portugal eventually lost to France, which went on to be defeated by champions Italy.

Born "Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro", Ronaldo is named after American president Ronald Reagan, the favorite actor of Ronaldo's father. Maybe Ronaldo will have more fans than the late US president, with all due respect.

Wayne Rooney, who is Ronaldo's team mate in MUFC, apparently fell out with him during the clash between England and Portugal in the recent World Cup, but things are looking better, now that they have started the English Premiereship season without much controversy. They have also clarified matters publicly.

However, the 2006 World Cup still leaves a bitter taste for Cristiano. He has admitted that he is still unhappy about not winning the World Cup's Best Young Player award, which FIFA gave to Germany's Lukas Podolski. Incidentally, Germany hosted the World Cup.
